Jamie Koizumi

Jamie Koizumi, 16, of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, won the first four holes of the final and went on to defeat Alicia Allison, of Santa Ana, Calif., 5 and 4, to capture the 44th U.S. Girls' Junior Championship at Meridian Hills Country Club, in Indianapolis, Ind.

Koizumi twice went 5 up before closing out Allison with a par at the 14th hole. Allison, who had lost in the semifinals in the 1991 championship, birdied the eighth and ninth but won neither hole. At No. 8, Koizumi drove her tee shot into a bunker, then hit a wedge 90 yards to within an inch of the hole to match a birdie by Allison.

In the semifinals, Koizumi defeated Heather Graff, of Kennewick, Wash., 2 up, and Allison rallied to edge Kellee Booth, of Cota de Caza, Calif., 1 up. Allison was 2-down after 13 holes before winning four of the next five, including the 18th, where Booth three-putted for bogey.

The medalist was Erick Hayashida, of Lima, Peru, who shot 73-72, four strokes better than Lisa Penske, of Bethlehem, Pa. Hayashida advanced to the quarterfinals before losing to Graff, 3 and 2.
