Hollis Stacy

Hollis Stacy, of Savannah, Ga., became the first player to win three successive Girls' Junior Championships when she defeated Amy Alcott, of Los Angeles, in 19 holes at the Augusta Country Club, Augusta, Ga. Other than Miss Stacy, only Willie Anderson, Mrs. Glenna Collett Vare, Miss Virginia Van Wie, and Mrs. Phillip Cudone have won three USGA Championships in successive years.

Anderson won the Open in 1903-04-05. Mrs. Vare the Women's Amateur in 1928-29-30, Miss Van Wie the Women's Amateur in 1932-33-34, and Mrs. Cudone won four successive Senior Women's Amateur Championships in 1968-69-70-71.

Miss Stacy was four under par for the 19 holes she needed to defeat Miss Alcott, 15. From the third hole through the 17th neither girl made a bogey: between them they made nine birdies, and going to the 18th Miss Stacy led by one hole. Miss Alcott won the 18th with a par, and Miss Stacy won with a 15-foot birdie putt on the 19th.

Miss Stacy hit 15 greens, Miss Alcott 14, Janet Aulisi, of West Caldwell, N.J. was the medalist with 152. Losing semi-finalists were Mary Budke, of Dayton, Ore., and Donna Horton, of Kinston, N.C.
