Fort Worth, Texas – Medalist Julieta Granada, 17, of Paraguay, defeated 17-year-old Jane Park of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., on the 20th hole of the final match Saturday to win the 56th U.S. Girls' Junior, held at the 6,256-yard, par-71 Mira Vista Golf Club course.
Granada, who shot 4-under 138 in stroke play, became the first medalist to win since In-Bee Park in 2002. The match tied Pat Hurst and Adele Moore in 1986 and Judy Eller versus Beth Stone in 1957 as the longest in history. It also marked the fourth time in the championship's history that extra holes were needed.
“I don't think I got it, that I just won,” said Granada. “I mean, it's such an honor. I see all the names on this trophy and I feel so special winning this.”
Packed with intensity on another sun-sweltering day, Granada again executed like a tactician.

Mira Vista A Source Of Pride For Walker Cup Player Miller
Fort Worth – As Lindy Miller puts it, he's been at Mira Vista Golf Club a long time.
“Before there was grass here, when they were still moving dirt,” he said before he watched with pride as Julieta Granada won the 2004 U.S. Girls' Junior Championship at the club.
Miller, the vice president of operations at Mira Vista, has been at the club since March of 1986. Mira Vista opened for play in August of 1987. In those days, the thought of hosting a USGA national championship wasn't even a blip on the radar screen.

Mira Vista Welcomes USGA President
Fort Worth, Texas – In the 25 years that ‘Nez Muhleman has been serving on the USGA Girls' Junior Championship Committee, she can't ever remember the United States Golf Association's top officer attending the championship.
Until Saturday.
USGA President Fred Ridley of Tampa, Fla., made the trip to Mira Vista Golf Club in Fort Worth to observe the final match between Julieta Granada and Jane Park.
